FLQL ROUNDERS · OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES
Rules & regulations
These rules apply to every Rounders fixture. By taking part, players agree to follow the moderator’s live procedure and the organisers’ final decisions.
Format and scoring
- Each fixture has four individual players in fixed seats A, B, C and D.
- There are 48 questions: Q1–24 run clockwise (A → B → C → D); Q25–48 run anti-clockwise (D → C → B → A).
- A direct answer has 30 seconds and is worth 1 point. There is no negative marking.
- Each pass has 7 seconds and is worth 2, then 3, then 4 points in the displayed route.
Scheduling
- Gameweeks ordinarily run from Monday evening IST to the following Monday at 12 noon IST. All scheduling correspondence must state times in IST.
- Any player may begin the scheduling email. Every player must give their full availability in their first reply.
- From Monday to Wednesday, a player has 36 hours to reply to the first scheduling email; from Thursday onwards, the deadline is 24 hours.
- After that deadline, the fixture may be scheduled without the non-responsive player. Where availability cannot be reconciled, the player who offered the least availability bears the consequence.
During the game
- Answers are verbal only. Players may make notes with pen and paper.
- Cameras must remain on and both hands must be visible throughout the fixture.
- Players must speak only when called upon. The moderator controls the clock, route, answer reveal and live ruling.
- Questions may not be discussed with anyone until the end of the relevant gameweek.
Attendance and interruptions
- A player who has not replied may be waited for five minutes after the agreed start time. A player who has said they will be late may be waited for ten minutes.
- A missing player receives 1 point. The other three players play for 4, 3 and 2 points; any tie follows the usual shared-position and shared-points rule.
- Substitutes are permitted only at the organisers’ discretion.
- If a player disconnects during a question, the moderator completes that question without them, then waits up to two minutes for their return unless that player had emailed in advance asking the group to wait.
Answers, protests and conduct
The answer key is generally exhaustive. A quickly verifiable alternate answer from a reputable source—particularly an established translation, transliteration or rare alternative term—may be accepted.
If an answer is wrongly revealed or adjudged, FLQL will provide a random spare question in its place.
Any player wishing to protest an accepted or rejected answer may submit the protest in writing within 24 hours of the game ending to fundaesligaquizleague@gmail.com, identifying the fixture and question number. A proven correction may change a completed result.
A protest must not disrupt an ongoing game. Players must maintain decorum and treat opponents and the moderator respectfully at all times. The moderator’s live ruling stands while the game continues.
Integrity and recordings
- A registered player must personally play their fixture. Stand-ins and account-sharing are not permitted.
- Players and moderators may immediately and respectfully flag a failure to keep video on or hands visible.
- Cheating may result in a warning, score cancellation, fixture forfeit or expulsion where credible evidence builds—particularly from the moderator.
- Organisers may request recordings for review or internal training. A recording may also be used on YouTube or social media unless a player has expressly asked not to appear on social media.
- By entering, players permit FLQL to publish names, results, standings, category statistics and match highlights.
Moderators
Moderators should disclose any material personal connection to players in a fixture. The organisers may appoint a replacement where appropriate.
Final authority
The organisers’ decision on all matters of format, procedure, eligibility, technical disruption, conduct, scoring and interpretation is final.
